Librarians help us about everything that involves books and records. I think that’s what they mainly do for us. They help us how to find a certain information or book that we need. They prepare and classify the books and materials that we need. They sort books into the categories they belong, so it’s easy for us to find them. Librarians also let us know if there are new books that we might be interested to read. They also organize records and fix them. And especially, they engage us to read books.
I think it would be really cool if librarians tell us information about the book. Like a group studies about it or discussion that will make the readers be more familiarize with the book, and learn as well. It would also be cool if there would be more storytelling for the children.
Because technology improves every time, I think the library of the future might look more advance and improved. And by that, I mean that more technology will introduce and less manual and physical work of the librarians will be needed. I think there will be a machine/device that will make us find books that we need in a very easier way. More likely, we will be introduced to a newer way to use books in the future. The information that we need might also be there right away. Honestly, I think that the work of the librarians will be less, because of the technology that has been introduced that time.
Hi Elise,
ReplyDeleteYou certainly have an excellent idea of what librarians do! You seem to realize that we do a variety of jobs and don't just check books in and out or shelve books.
Most of the college librarians do just teach you how to do the research and let you do the reading. Some public libraries, however, do have book discussions where groups can get together and discuss books they have read. They also have story hours, usually mostly for preschoolers, but I noticed my public library has a family night where they read books for all ages. You might check out your public library to see what they have to offer.
You are correct that less and less physical work is required by librarians today as so much information is online requiring less shelving of books. There are even some libraries that have a machine that checks in books. Who knows what technology will be in our futures, but we do know there will be a librarian there to help us learn to use it.
